Yazd, IRNA – The 5th International Congress of the Iranian Society of Surgical Oncology (ICISSO) opened in Yazd on Wednesday, bringing together surgeons, researchers and specialists to discuss advances in cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The three-day event aims to share the latest scientific findings, present new diagnostic and therapeutic developments, and strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation in cancer surgery.
Sessions cover gastrointestinal, breast, thyroid, head and neck, and gynecological cancers, as well as sarcomas and melanoma. Minimally invasive and robotic surgery, post-cancer surgical reconstruction, multidisciplinary treatment, precision medicine, artificial intelligence and emerging technologies are also on the agenda.
The program includes scientific meetings, keynote speeches, research presentations, clinical case reviews and exchanges between Iranian and international experts.
Speakers at the opening ceremony stressed that improving cancer care requires interdisciplinary collaboration, advanced technologies and a humane approach to patients.
They described the congress as an opportunity to share research and clinical experience, improve treatment outcomes and ease patients’ suffering, while recognizing the human struggles behind each cancer diagnosis.
